Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle and Parisian Passion

It's a Monday once again, my loves!  And though today isn't everybody's favourite, let's try to be more positive here shall we?  I know it sucks because it's the start of another work week for others, mine started yesterday though I didn't come in to work, so technically my work week starts today as well.  But time flies so fast, it's gonna be the weekend again before we know it.  And it's gonna be payday weekend for me so yes, I can't wait!
^_^

If there's one drugstore brand that I have featured the most on this blog, it has got to be Revlon. It's no surprise since I really love the brand.  It's one of the makeup brands that I've played with when I started with makeup.  If I remember it right, my first Revlon product is the lippie in the shade Pink in the Afternoon.  Was it that or the Colorstay liquid foundation? Ugh, old age. Tee-hee!  Anyway for today, let me do the pleasure of featuring the brand once again.

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain
(AED 57)
Enriched with a new formula, these moisture stains offer the shine of a lipgloss, the hydration of a lip balm, the wear of a lip stain and the colour intensity of the lipstick.

Out of the 12 available shades, I was able to get 2:

Shanghai Sizzle - Parisian Passion

See how uberly pigmented these babies are?

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Shanghai Sizzle

A shockingly red orange when swatched but is actually wearable on the lips. I am not a fan of orange-reds so I am totally not crushing on this one but I'm sure my Mom would be ecstatic to have it.

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion

Now, this one I am definitely diggin'! It looks extremely dark in the tube, but when swatched and worn on the lips, it's a pretty raspberry red in a semi-opaque finish. This reminds me of my MAC Diva lipstick but less pigmented and yes, a lot more sheer and shiny.  Weird, but I find such colors to work better on me than reds. Even the husband says so!

The texture of this lippies are thick, but surprisingly not sticky. They might look goopy, but not as heavy as I expect them to be on the lips.  The two shades that I got aren't that opaque in one go but you can absolutely layer them.

These lippies remind me of a lip lacquer: a lipstick and a lipgloss hybrid. They are definitely moisturizing on the lips so I don't apply a lip balm prior to applying this. As for the staying power, it stays on for a good 2-3hrs or until I take a meal or a drink. Out of the two shades that I have, only the Parisian Passion leaves a stain. Maybe I need to apply more of the Shanghai Sizzle the next time I use it?

I am not a fan of really shiny lip colours so honestly, I am not going gaga over these. I also have this bad habit of biting/licking my lips unconsciously and these aren't transfer-proof so just imagine yours truly smiling with lipstick stains all over my teeth. Not a pretty sight, really.  If I want to use this, I just apply a tiny weeny bit on top of another lip colour to give it some shine.

How about you? Tried and liking this, or hating it?

Working in the UAE: How Different Is It?

On this same day last year, I was preparing to go home for my sister’s college graduation. I was already losing hope of finding a job here in the UAE. I arrived sometime September and started applying for jobs in October. I attended a number of interviews and was able to be in the final shortlist on some but still, I remained jobless.  I honestly felt bobo that time.  I mean hello, I’ve been working for more than 14 years and I think I have a pretty good set of credentials naman pero bakit hindi ako makakuha ng trabaho? Maybe I am under qualified?  I tried applying to entry-level positions but then they told me I am over qualified.  On positions that I am qualified on the other hand, hindi naman ako makalusot.  Susmio, hindi ko malaman saan ako lulugar.

So when I went home for a short vacation, I told myself I am going to enjoy. Because when I get back, I am yet to face again the fact that I am still jobless and will be spending my day at home doing chores. Not that I hate or I don’t know how to do housechores ha, domesticated ata ang yours truly hindi nyo lang alam. But I can just say that since the time I arrived until early April of last year, I was a totally different me.

But as they say, everything happens in God’s time. I was still in Pinas enjoying my time in Palawan when Mr. X told me that one of the companies I’ve applied to, called him and looked for me. Thank god for call-diverts. Hahaha!  The funny thing was before I left for vacation, I already got a regret letter from them saying that they will no longer push through with my application. In short, butata na naman si ako. Then they had a change of mind. So there, I went home 2nd week of April and after a week of preparation, I was again back to working.

Ang bilis ng panahon, now it’s almost a year since I got back to working.  At times I still ask myself, bakit pa nga ba ako nagwork e mas masarap kumain at matulog (of course after ko maglaba, maglinis at magluto no!) sa bahay. But unfortunately, it’s not enough that only the husband works these days. In our case, there are a lot of things we need to prepare for.

After working for almost a year here in the UAE, let me just give you some things one has to remember when working here.  I'm pretty sure there's a whole lot more but for now, let me share with you the following:

1.  First and foremost, working here in the UAE is tax-free. Yes my friends, you get to bring home your salary in full.  Walang bawas, walang kulang. Not unless of course you have deductibles to begin with like loans, absences, etc. No need to pay for any personal or income tax.  After getting deducted by 32% on most of the years I’ve worked in PH, this is something I really appreciate from working here in the UAE. We all know where most, if not all, of our taxes go in Pinas. Masaya na lahat ng pinaghirapan mo nakukuha mo, at hindi napupunta sa bulsa ng mga buwaya.

2.  Typically, a workweek starts on a Sunday and ends on Thursday. While most get to have a two-day weekend, some gets only a one-day off.  In my case, I get a two-days off.  Yebah!

3.  During Ramadan, a work day of 8hrs (for some it’s 9) gets reduced by two hours.  So if you usually go home at 4pm, you can then pack up and leave by 2pm.  That is, if you can bear the scorching heat of the sun since Ramadan falls in summer.  I remember last year when I attempted to leave the office at 3pm, I decided to just go back and stay for another 2 hours just because I couldn’t take the heat outside. It really felt like I was in a sauna and that my life is being sucked out of me.  Hindi ko kinaya!

4.  Also during Ramadan, you should not eat or drink in public during fasting hours. This isn’t a rule per se, but as a sign of respect, one should not be seen eating or drinking.  Though I heard that some Muslims would really call the attention of those who eat or drink during fasting hours.  So just to be sure na huwag mapahiya (or masabihang bastos) don't even think about it.  Besides, you can eat or drink somewhere that you can't be seen.  In the office, the water dispensers have been put away and should you need to eat or drink, you need to come down to the pantry.  In malls, restaurants are closed and they open after sunset for Iftar.

5.  Unlike in PH where you get paid twice in a month, you get your salary here in a monthly basis. Yes, buwanan! So be ready with your budgeting skills. Mahirap magstretch ng budget for a whole month, ha.

6.  For women who just gave birth, they are entitled to go home an hour earlier (for some, it’s two) every day for 18 months.  This is of course on top of the paid maternity leaves.

7.  UAE is considered to be the melting pot of different cultures so it's not really impossible to  have officemates from different countries. If sa Pinas, ang usual lang is American, Indian, Chinese or British, dito halos lahat meron.  Sometimes, if there's a meeting, I'd say may ongoing forum ang United Nations.  Whehehe, korni.

8. Arabic might be the national language here in the UAE but you'd be surprised that almost everybody speaks English.  Swerte mo if you have officemates na Pinoy, because if not, pati chismisan would still be in English. Nosebleed pa more, yeah!

9. For every year of service, an employee is entitled to a minimum of one-month annual leave. Some employers even provide a plane ticket to the employee's home country every year (for some, two) should he be an expat. I'm not really sure if this is by law or by discretion of the company.  If you won't be going back to your home country for vacation e di bongga, since you can actually en-cash the plane ticket instead.

10. There's something called as an employment ban here in the UAE. If you're an expat and  working in a private sector and decides to resign without completing a minimum of two years service, you will not be allowed to work in another company for 6 months. Unless 1) you'd be transferring to a government office or 2) you are working in a company located in a free zone  or 3) the work you'd be transferring to is offering a higher salary (there's a minimum pay required, depends on your educational attainment or 4) you are able to get an NOC (Letter of No Objection) from your current employer.  Mejo malabo sakin actually ang labor ban na ito because though I resigned only after 6 months of working in my first job which belongs to a private sector, I transferred naman to a government office.

Ano pa ba? I really couldn't think of anything else.  Maybe pag tumagal-tagal pa ako dito then I'll be able to share more.

So what do I like from working here in the UAE?  For me, it would have to be the fact that I don't need to pay for income tax and that during Ramadan, work hours get reduced by 2 hrs.  And oh, the free plane ticket every year.   So far, yun lang.

Ikaw, what do you like from working here in the UAE?

My GlamboxME March 2015 Box

$

And the inevitable has come...it's Sunday once again!  And in this part of the world, that means getting our (lazy) asses back to work.  So how did you spend your weekend?  Ako, I joined the Color Run here in Abu Dhabi last Friday with my former officemates (will be blogging about this soon!) and then yesterday, kain-tulog lang.

I really wish weekend comes in 5 days and weekdays in 2.
Ang saya siguro!
^_^

Anyway, I got this month's Glambox last week so I'd be sharing you my thoughts on it today.

 Glambox March 2015

After taking a peek of what's inside the box, I pretty much got excited when I saw the Glamgals lipstick.  I absolutely loved the Glamgals lip color that was inside the box last month so it's nice to get another chance to try more of their products.  Too bad, they don't have a store here in AUH (if they do, please let me know) because I would love to know the brand more.

Enchanteur Perfumed Moisturizing Cream
(AED14 for 300ml)

I love moisturizing creams, I use them on my neck, elbows and knees, but I'm loyal to Nivea. Pero I'm always open to trying out new stuff naman. I've checked this one out as soon as I opened the box and though it's really moisturizing, I didn't like the scent. Mabango naman siya but I prefer the subtle scent of Nivea.

Dove Beauty Moisture Cleanser
(AED 24 for 220ml)

My oh my, Glambox...I wish you threw in at least a full size of this. Stuff like this inside beauty subscription boxes is really disappointing. I love Dove cleansers but I look forward to getting more exciting stuff, stuff that you can't get easily in supermarkets.

Bioderma Matricium

Now this one definitely piqued my interest. This skincare product is made for ageing skin since it stimulates cell regeneration.  Now that my skin isn't getting any younger, stuff like this is right up on my alley. I've read a lot of good things about this online so I can't wait to try this soon.  This box only contains 5 small tubes so I hope it will be enough to at least see any difference.

Bioderma Photoderm Max SPF 100
(AED113 for 100ml)

I already got this and its fluid version in one of the previous boxes.  This stuff is good, but I prefer the fluid one.  In this side of the world where the sun is shining in all of its glory most of the time, sun protection as high as 100 is a must.  What I love about these sunscreens from Bioderma is that they aren't sticky and heavy on the skin despite having a high spf.

GlamGals Moisturizing Glossy Lipstick

This baby definitely made me want more products from this brand. Having tried two of their lip products, I'd say this brand is awesome!

I can't say a whole lot about their products yet, but I think they are definitely worth checking out. Pigmentation is great, it's not sticky and doesn't dry my lips. This baby gets my two-thumbs up!

And what is Glambox without coupons?  For this month, the box has the following:

Me and the husband are meat lovers so we'll definitely try this out.  I heard their burgers are really good too!

This voucher/coupon is worth AED1500 and can be used for a 6-day trial or to save some bucks for a membership. I think their gym is located in Dubai and since I'm in Abu Dhabi most of the time, I don't think I'd be able to utilize this one. If you want this, let me know and I'll give it for free.

This reminds me of Slimfast.  I am not a fan of shakes that supposedly help in making you lose weight but their chocolate variant looks yum!  I might lose control and have a number of servings in one sitting instead. So yeah, I'm gonna skip this one too. Again, if you want to have this just let me know.

Just like in my previous unboxing posts, I still hope that Glambox step up their game. More and more people are getting disappointed and I hope that they wake up and listen to their customers' feedbacks before it gets too late.

If you ask me what I wish to be in their future boxes, I'd say more Glamgals products.  I really think the brand is promising and they deserve more attention.  Also, I wish Glambox would stop having products that you can easily get in supermarkets or groceries like Dove, Nivea, etc. They need to listen more to their customers, make their boxes more interesting and give their customers' their money's worth.

Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover

I know, I know...you'd probably be asking, "just how many makeup remover does this silly girl need?" I honestly lost count already as to how many makeup removers I've reviewed on this blog. While some are good, there's also a number of removers that didn't make the cut. And well, some made it to my favourites list. Maybe I'd do a post on my most favorite makeup removers of all time.  Hmm, what do you think?

For now, allow me to share with you my favourite eye makeup remover as of the moment.  Months ago, I was over the moon with the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover.  But a makeup and skincare junkie like me just doesn't stop after finding a favourite, we continue to search for a new product to like (and love). Oh, I'm sure you can relate.  If not, then what the hell are you doing here reading my blog in the first place?
    ^_^

Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover
    (less than AED 30)
    Enriched with Cornflower extract, it:
    1) effectively removes even extreme waterproof mascara and makeup without any rubbing needed
    2) protects the sensitive eyelashes with its caring bi-phase formula
    3) does not leave any unpleasant greasy residue

Just like the Sephora eye makeup remover, this is also a bi-phased liquid in a lightweight, plastic container.

Give it some good shake to mix the two liquids together before pouring some of the product onto a cotton pad.

Here's a photo of my eyes with makeup:

And here's an after photo after cleansing it with the eye makeup remover:

As you can see, it totally got rid of the eyeshadow (with a primer beneath) and the waterproof eyeliner and mascara. And hmm, do you see any grease on my eyelid?
      Nadah!

By the way, the mascara I used was the Majolica Majorca Lash King that we all know can be pretty stubborn to remove. But with this eye makeup remover, it was such a breeze taking it off. Absolutely no tugging, no rubbing needed! It didn't sting at all. I've even used this while I have my contacts on (but with my eyes closed, of course!) and everything went fine.

I can say that this stuff works as good as the Sephora eye makeup remover, but less expensive.  But do take note that this only has Cornflower extract while the other one has a lot of other skincare ingredients in its formula.  If I am to choose only one, I'd go with the latter just because for a few more dirhams, I get a makeup remover and a skincare product in one.

So will I re-purchase? I already did! I alternate this with the Sephora one.

Happy Skin All Eyes on Hue Eyeshadow Palette

Whoa, where did our January go!?  We're on our second month of the year, my loves and it's the love month!  Some of us might be excited with the upcoming Valentines Day, but not me. I dunno…maybe because I never had a "proper" V-day. And when I say proper, I meant candlelight dinner with a bouquet of flowers, walking holding hands in the park after…you know, all that stuff.  Bitter ang peg? Not really. It's just that I have never experienced that.  Mr. X is not into such things.  He is, but not during V-days. We opt to stay at home, call for delivery or if ever we go out, we just watch a movie and/or have dinner in a casual restaurant.  So yeah, I guess my bonggang V-day is yet to come. Until that, I'd remain unexcited for it.

What I'm trying to say is, if you're friends with my hubs, please let him know my sentiments.
      (laughs)

Anyway for today, let me share with you my current favourite toy…something I reach out for on most days, the Happy Skin All Eyes on Hue Eyeshadow Palette.

I love that it comes in an eye-catching magnetic carton packaging that is easy to bring along when you travel. It doesn't take too much space and is lightweight.

At the back, it has 3 sample looks that you can use as reference.

      Let's take a peek of what's inside:

      Oh look, a cheat-sheet!
This makes this palette great for those who are just starting out with playing on eye makeup.

The palette features 4 neutrals that can bring your eyeshadow look from day to night.  Each of the shades can be used on its own or blended with the others to create a more vavavoom look.

3 of the shades have shimmers, but they are so fine they won't make you look like a disco ball when worn.  The pink shade is matte, making it a great blending shade on the crease. I personally love a warm medium brown for a blending shade, something like MAC Bamboo, so I wish this palette comes with one though.

Pigmentation is good, except for the pink that you might to pack on to get more colour.

The eyeshadows are easy to blend, you don't need to be a PRO to use it.  Just pat (don't sweep, to avoid fallouts) it on the lids using a flat brush and using a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush, blend it upwards to get rid of the harsh lines. When I'm too lazy but still want some colours on my eyes, I only use a single shade. I pat it on, then blend upwards.

      Some sample looks:

       Biscuit on the crease
Espresso on the inner and outer 1/3
and Oatmeal on the middle and inner corner

Biscuit + MAC Bamboo on the crease
Espresso + Oatmeal on the lid

Biscuit + MAC Bamboo on the crease
      Hazelnut on the lid

I've been using the eyeshadows without a primer and it pretty much looks like I have just applied it after a long day:

If you have oily lids, I suggest that you use an eyeshadow primer. But the thing is, I have oily lids myself and yet it doesn't look like I need one whenever I'm using it.

This is priced at Php1299, not cheap but it's worth its price IMHO. As with all Happy Skin products, it doesn't just make you look beautiful but it also cares for your skin. It is infused with Argan Oil to keep your delicate eye area nourished and moisturised.  Believe me, it's something that you'd find yourself using often most especially if you are into neutrals.  It's so easy to use, practically fool-proof, I must say.

I am definitely looking forward to more eyeshadow palettes from Happy Skin. And hopefully, they will come up with something more colourful…you know, something for my Happy Friday, I mean Thursday looks.
      ^_^

      Farewell...

I tried to keep up with my busy schedule at work and still update my blog. but as you can see, I haven't been doing a great job.  I may have been posting sometimes but mostly, it would just be EOTDs/FOTDs...and worse, they all look the same. I know i've been boring you to death with my senseless posts for quite a long time now.

Also, I have a lot of personal issues that i would need to deal with first. my life has been like a rollercoaster ride for these past few months, and no matter how hard I try to pretend that I am doing okay, people (who really know me) would still know that i am not.

it's hard...and I would definitely miss all of you. but I don't have any choice but to say goodbye for now. I would no longer be posting in here since in a state that I am in now, posting about makeup and anything about vanity would be really inappropriate. I am sorry, dear readers. you've been with me for these past years...and you have encouraged me in every way you can to continue my passion with makeup. I will never forget all of you.

Thanks, dear readers. I will surely miss all of you. To my fellow bloggers, I will continue reading your blogs, though.

I wish you all the best, dearies.

And one last thing, please pray for me that i'd be able to go thru my problems now.

      -----------

This was my post (edited it a bit) exactly 6 years ago...on April Fools' Day!  So yes, I'm just kidding...I am not really saying goodbye.
      ^_^

People thought I was really signing off from the blogosphere that I got a number of comments (even emails, text messages) after they read my post.  I did leave a link at the bottom of that post to redirect them to my other blog so they could get more information on why I decided to bid goodbye.  Nakakataba lang ng puso to know that despite my not so blogging-worthy posts, some people still read my blog.  But honestly, I did think of leaving that time.  Medyo emotera ang lola nyo those days.

A few weeks ago, I was again having that emotera mode. Well, kelan ba hindi? And when I check my blog, I see that I don't get to update as often as I used to.  I myself sometimes get bored on my posts, so I thought, how much more my readers.  So again, the thought of saying goodbye to something I've been doing for almost 8 years crossed my mind.

Then I saw this post on my Facebook page:

Danitza, you have no idea how much this means to me.  I got teary-eyed after reading this. When things get rough and frustrating, I always think that I am a total failure, that I am at fault.  So when I get messages like this, I feel like I am not. I feel like there is indeed something in my life that I am doing right. Mababaw siguro for some, but I feel more inspired to continue with blogging though I might not have as many readers/followers as the others or I might not get as much favours as I used to.

My blogging started with my passion to share my love for anything about beauty. I didn't have sponsors when I started, but it didn't stop me from buying just to try out products and share my two-cents to my readers.  Then after sometime, sponsors started pouring in and up until now, I am grateful to them.  Now that I am here in the UAE, it feels like I am starting with my blog all over again but it's okay. As long as I know that there are people checking out my blog and as long as I still have something to share (not just about beauty but also food, travel, personal stuff), I'll be staying in this online space of mine. I just hope that you, my dear readers, won't get tired of visiting this site whenever you have time.

Again, thank you and Happy April Fools' Day!

Travel: Kamay Ni Hesus in Lucban Quezon

Since today is Holy Thursday, I decided to put up this post about our travel year ago to probably one of the famous pilgrimage destinations in the Philippines, the Kamay ni Hesus Shrine in Lucban, Quezon.

The shrine is a healing center built under the initiative of Fr. Joseph Ayala Faller, a well-known healing priest. A healing mass is conducted at the chapel every Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:30AM.  We went there on a Wednesday but unfortunately, we arrived there past noon so we weren't able to attend the healing mass.

As soon as you enter the vicinity, it would be impossible to miss this amazing view of the hill where the 50-ft status of the Ascending Christ is erected.  I am not a fan of walking, much more climbing, so it was really a big challenge for me.  It was also around 1pm when we started the trekking the Way of the Cross going up the hill so imagine the torturing heat of the sun plus the humid air.  It felt like we were in a sauna.  But I did ask Mom to bring me here after seeing her first trip at the shrine, so I didn't have any reason to complain. Konting sakripisyo lang naman to, as compared as what Jesus went thru.  Kaya, push lang!

Along the way up are life-size statues depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross

      The Grotto Entrance

Adam and Eve (plus the devil) in the Garden of Eden

      Noah's Ark

The Last Supper, which is the start of the uphill climb

Jesus praying at the Garden of Gethsemane

      Jesus condemned to death

       Crowning of thorns

       Jesus carries his cross

       Jesus falls the first time

Simon helps Jesus carry the cross

       The Crucifixion

       Jesus laid on the tomb

       The Resurrection

We had to stop midway because it was too humid and we ran out of water.  So if you are to climb the hill, make sure to bring enough water with you.  None of us volunteered to go down because who would want to start the climb all over again anyway? Hahaha. Tiis na lang muna ng uhaw!

      And finally, we made it!

This 50-ft statue is currently the world's third tallest statue of the Risen Christ.

After reaching the top, we stayed for almost an hour to rest and enjoy the amazing view of Lucban.

It was truly a great experience to be able to reach the top.  I tried counting the steps but I somehow got lost after we rested midway. People say it's 321 steps, some says less than that. Maybe next time, if given another chance, I'll count it na.
      ^_^

I think we spent more than hour climbing but a little less than 15 minutes going down. I realized that the steps going down are "bigger" than the ones going up.  I was really tired that I wanted to just roll myself going down, hahaha!

Travel time is around 3hrs from Manila.  When we got there, we first had lunch at the carinderias along the highway. Not sure if there are any fancy restaurants in the area. We ate in one of the carinderias and tried their famous pansit habhab.  But unfortunately, I've had better pansit habhab in some places in Manila. Probably we just missed the right carinderia to try.

So would I want to go back to Kamay ni Hesus?
YES!  But probably not during summer.
      ^_^

We usually do the Visita Iglesia on Thursday then we go around to watch the Penitensya on Friday. On Saturday, we just stay at home and at night, we attend the Salubong and then attend mass early Sunday.  Hay, I miss spending the Holy Week in Pinas. This is the 2nd time that I'm spending it here in the sandpit. And starting Thursday until Saturday, we stay away from eating meat. So it's all veggies and seafood!

How about you, how do you spend the Holy Week?

Happy Easter, my loves!  So how did you spend the weekend? Me, I just spent it at home, sleeping and watching movies online the whole day.  I was on the Master Cleanse so I figured it will be a good idea to just stay indoors just in case you know, my tummy goes gaga.  I'm almost done with the cleanse and I'll be writing about it soon.

Today, I'd be sharing this makeup look I've worn some weeks ago. This should've been a "Happy Thursday" post but since it was the Holy Thursday last week, I decided to post something else.

      In2It Eyebrow Powder
MAC eyeshadows in Bamboo (crease as transition color), Aquadisiac and Shimmermoss (lid), Blacked (Outer-V, crease and lower lash line) and Retrospeck (inner lid)
      MAC Smouldering Eyeliner (lower waterline)
      Isadora Liquid Eyeliner
      Ardell Wispies

      Max Factor Facefinity Primer
      L'oreal Infallible Liquid Foundation #200
      Makeup Factory Pressed Powder
Happyskin Cosmetics Feeling Sculptural Contour Powder

So there you go, I hope you like it.

      Have an amazing week, y'all!

And, it's a Sunday once again! For those in this part of the planet, it means time to get our asses back to work. Weekend is over, my loves! And though I'm sure most of us pretty much wants to get stuck on the weekend, we gotta do what we gotta do. Don't fret, time flies so damn fast, it's gonna be the weekend again sooner than you expect it.

Today, I'm going to share with you last month's box from Glambox.  I know a lot of people have been continuously disappointed with the previous months' boxes, so let's see if last month's box deserves a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

       January 2015 Glambox

Bath and Body Works Fragrance Mist in A Thousand Wishes
      (AED 35/ 88ml)

This is the brand's offering for Winter 2014. It has a festive blend sparkling champagne, crystal peonies and almond creme.  When I opened the box and saw this, I immediately took a sniff and I instantly fell inlove with the scent.  It's fruity but not overly sweet and the staying power is amazing.  I don't know but I sprayed it on around 11 in the evening and I can still smell it when I woke up the next morning.  I love it so much I've been wearing it on most days since I got it.  I'm gonna check out the perfume soon on a counter soon!

      Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion
      (AED 22/ 350ml)

It's still a bit chilly here in the sandpit most especially in the evenings and so my skin gets a bit drier.  I slather a generous amount of body oil after a hot bath in the evening and still follow it with a very moisturizing body lotion to seal in moisture.  With this lotion, I can skip the body oil and just use this and still wake up with soft, smooth skin. One thing I didn't like so much though, is that the scent is too overpowering.  I've used their body oil in the past and I'm okay with it since I find its smell subtle.  But because of this stuff's moisturizing power, I'm willing to let my nose suffer. I don't get to smell it anymore when I'm already sleeping anyway.
      ^_^

      Revivogen Bio-Cleansing Shampoo
      (AED 90/ 360ml)

I've only tried this once so I really can't vouch for its ability to help with hair loss. And besides, I don't really suffer from hair loss/fall this days.  But what I like about it is that it makes my hair feel really clean. I use hair wax everyday and with this, I feel like the wax is being totally removed from my hair.  I'm gonna use this sample until I finish it and let's see if it will help my hair feel less fine.

      CHI Silk Infusion
(AED 195 for the full size, sorry no idea about the exact size)

This is a leave-in reconstructing treatment for the hair and is infused with pure natural silk, wheat and soy proteins. I haven't used this because I try to stay away from any leave-on treatment with the fear that it might keep my hair from being styled.   But I'm gonna try this soon and hopefully it's gonna prove me wrong.  If you have tried this, please let me know how it works for you.

Herbline Essentials SPF 40 Sunscreen Lotion

I've tried this once on my face and neck on a makeup-free day and fortunately, I didn't experience anything unpleasant. I'll try it again beneath makeup and let's see how it's gonna work.

And just like other boxes, last month's box has a number of vouchers/coupons inside:

But honestly, I never got to use any of the vouchers that come with the boxes.  I'd rather have additional samples instead.

So what do you think, is the last month's box worth it? Personally, I think it's not.  They should have included at least one or two full size of a product like the lotion and the fragrance mist  or perhaps a bigger size of the shampoo.  I also didn't like that there was no makeup inside the box.  I also hope they would stop including a sample sachet of products and have a travel-sized product instead.  I mean, I don't think you'd be able to get a good impression of a product with just a small sachet.  I honestly think Glambox should try to amp up their game a little bit more.

Agree? Let me know you're thoughts.

      Sally Hansen Miracle Nail Thickener

It's half past one in the morning and I know I'm supposed to be sleeping by now but instead, I am here typing away.  I just wanted to share with you my current favourite nail care product that I've been using for weeks and which actually helped me grow out my nails again.

      Sally Hansen Miracle Nail Thickener
      (AED 35)

Made with calcium and ceramic gel formula, this can be used alone or as a base coat.  I prefer using it on its own because I've tried using it as a base coat twice in the past and my entire polish peeled off after just a few hours.  At first I thought I might have applied too much of it and/or the nail polish so I tried once again (1 coat of this and 2 coats of the nail polish) and the same thing happened.

As a nail treatment, I apply a single coat per day for 4 consecutive days (sometimes 5) and then remove it using an acetone. When I first used it for a few days,  I noticed that my nails aren't as bendy as they used to. I repeated using it again for the next 4-5 days and after the 3rd time I did it, I can hardly bend the tips of my nails. They are indeed stronger and noticeably thicker. And nope, it doesn't make my nails turn yellowish.

Formulation is like any other top coats I've tried, it's not as thick as I've expected it to be. It dries quite fast and adds shine, thus making it a good top coat. I've used it as a top coat in the past, and unlike when used as a base coat, it doesn't make my polish peel off.

Have you tried this? I've read a number of negative reviews on this product, so I did have second thoughts of giving it a try.  Good thing I did!  This is one product I would continue to use because it really works for me.

How about you, are you also suffering from weak, brittle nails like I did in the past? Or have you found yourself your own miracle nail care too?  Spill the beans!

Do you still remember the first time you used foundation, specifically a liquid foundation? I'm gonna bet you only used your fingers back then.  Or maybe not? Maybe it's just me! Hahahah!  Seriously, I don't remember using any brushes back then. Looking back, I think the only kind of brushes I remember are the ones for the eyes (sponge-tips) and those for blushes.  Ganun na ba ako katanda for me not to remember if uso na ang foundation brushes noon?

But yes, I used to only use my fingers to apply liquid foundation.  I even hated using those round sponges that most parloristas use to apply cake foundation.  The only time I learned how to use brushes for foundation was when I entered makeup school. Then sponges ala beauty blenders came into the picture.  I love using them because they are multipurpose. You can use them with liquids, creams and they give an airbrush finish.  I still prefer to use foundation brushes for some of my foundations though. In time, I got to learn which makeup works better with what makeup tool.

I've been a user of Beauty Blender probably a year after it came out, ay naku lagi talaga akong huli sa uso! I've also tried other blending sponges but what I like next to the original Beauty Blender is the one from Stila (read my post about it here).  But since we love having options, let me share with you today another blending sponge I've been using lately...the Wojooh Master Blender.

      Wojooh Master Blender
      (AED 40)

It does look like the Beauty Blender but this one is smaller and denser. The bottom end is rounder while that of the Beauty Blender is flat. Also, the other end of this one is not so pointed like that of the Beauty Blender and lastly, this one does not expand when wet.  I think it does expand just for a little bit. So yes, this one doesn't become as springy as the Beauty Blender.

Disappointed already?  Well, don't be.  I found that despite it not being exactly like the Beauty Blender, this baby also works wonders in applying your makeup.

foundation, concealer and cheek tint applied using Master Blender

Like the Beauty Blender, it also gives an airbrush finish. While I find the Beauty Blender best to be used for thicker liquid foundations, and not bb creams or tinted moisturizers because it thins them out, this one works great with the latter. I know you'd say why use this and not just your fingers instead? Well, with this tool, you'd be assured that the application is more even and can you say no to airbrush-finish makeup?

Which one I like better? I can't choose, because I have different use for each of them. I use the Beauty Blender when I'm using my thicker foundations or creams and I use the Master Blender when I'm using my bb creams, tinted moisturizers and cheek tints.  I just wish that the pointed tip is as pointed as that of the Beauty Blender so it will be easier to apply makeup on the sides of the nose and on the under eye area.

Priced at AED 40, I am not complaining. Hopefully, they come up with a black one because stains on this cute little thing are such an eye sore.

So what do you think, will you give this a try?

Wojooh Color Ritual Breathe-In Nail Polish

Do you love painting your nails?  I guess most of us do. It's probably one of the easiest way to accessorize, perhaps the cheapest too, unless you'd go for a bottle of Chanel or Loubotin.
      ^_^

I've tried a lot of nail polish brands and I must say, this is the first time I came across a breathe-in nail polish.  So what exactly is a breathe-in nail polish? It is uniquely formulated to allow water and air to pass through, permitting nails to breathe.   This may not mean so much to some of us, but for our Muslim sisters, it does.

Before praying, Muslims need to do a washing ritual where they must let water run on parts of their body including the hands. Now with the usual nail polish that creates a barrier on the nails which blocks water from passing through, this makes the pre-ritual washing invalid and therefore invalidates the prayer as well.  While some Muslim women will just remove the nail polish and reapply it after their prayer, some totally stay away from applying nail polish because it can be such a chore. Imagine having to remove and reapply 5x a day?   Now with breathable or breathe-in nail polishes, our Muslim sisters can still wear nail colour without having to worry about not being able to perform their prayers properly.

WOJOOH Color Ritual Breathe-In Nail Polish
      (AED 55)
A moisturizing and long-lasting formula that protects nails from chipping and applies evenly without streaking.  Formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, phthalates or camphor. Contains UV filter to prevent discoloration and yellowing.

Raw Sugar - Matte Top Coat - Midnight Majlis

      Raw Sugar

      Midnight Majlis

The above nail colours are applied without any top coat so as you can see, they are glossy on their own.  They apply evenly without any streaking and the colors are just wow.  I usually apply 3 coats to achieve full opacity on some nail polish brands but with these, I can get away with just one layer, at least on these colors that I got.  But of course I'd still go for two.

Midnight Majlis with Matte Top Coat

I love, love their matte top coat. I've been using it often and I just love how it totally transforms a nail polish from having that classy, glossy finish to a clean, matte finish.

True enough, I didn't see any yellowing on my nails even after wearing them for a long time.  Also, they get to remain chip-free for 3-4 days.

The only thing that I think will keep me from buying it is the price. I find it expensive at AED 55 a pop. Kuripot ako eh! I can get a bottle or two from other brands for the price of one of this. But then again, they won't be breathable nail polishes.  So if I am a Muslim and I need a nail polish that I can wear before, during and after prayers, then I'd definitely consider buying these.

      Makeup Look: Sweet Valentines...

V-day is in a few days, have you made any plans yet? As to me and Mr. X, I don't think we're going out on the day itself, that is, if he's even planning to take me out on a date.  Let's see what ex-boyfie has in store for me.

I had extra time the other day to play with makeup, so I came up with something that isn't my usual neutrals.  This is something you can wear for your date on V-day, or on any day when you want to look pa-sweet.

      FACE
Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer
L'oreal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation in Golden Sand
      Makeup Factory Pressed Powder
Happy skin Eye Need A Miracle Corrector
      Benefit Boi-ing in Medium
Happy skin Feeling Sculptacural Contour Kit

      EYES and BROWS
      NARS Pro-prime Eyeshadow Primer
MAC eyeshadows in Sunset B. (lids) and Vibrant Grape (outer-V, crease) and Warm Brown shade from Viseart Neutral Palette
      Ardell Demi Wisps

      LIPS
Happyskin Lip and Cheek Mousse in Warm and Toasty and Shut Up and Kiss Me lipstick in Honeymoon Glow

So what do you think of this look?

I love that I can wear falsies here without being stared at. It just looks so normal with people here.  How I wish I have their long, luscious lashes instead because applying falsies on oneself can be pretty much messy and takes a lot of time.  At least, for me.

Woohoo, it's a Thursday once again!
      (happy dance)

I can't wait for this day to be over and off to another great weekend I go.  The husband's back from a short  trip to PH and since it was our 257th monthsarry yesterday,  (hahaha, oh yes we still count!) we're going out for a movie date tonight. Have you watched Fast and the Furious 7 already? I heard it's good. I'm excited to see it and of course, eat my favourite movie snack...nachos with loads of jalapeño and cheese!  It's gonna be a pig-out weekend once again!  Also, we'd be going back to Ras Al Khaimah tomorrow for a short weekend getaway with some friends.

      Yahooooo!
      ^_^

And so before I lose myself from thinking too much about this weekend (and food), let me share with you another review. This time it's gonna be about this foundation that has been my favourite for a few months now. Last year, I've blogged about the Sephora 10hr Perfect Wear Foundation and I told you that it's my favourite.  Well, it was...until I've tried this:

L'oreal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation
A makeup with superior hold and moisturizing comfort for 24hr flawless coverage, no touch ups required. Fighting imperfections and shine without compromising on moisture, skin is left truly infallible.

I got this foundation around August of last year but never got to use it until a few months after.  The Sephora foundation had been my go-to foundation on most days.  Then I accidentally left it in Dubai during the weekend and so I had no choice but to use other available foundations in my stash. I tried this and didn't like it at first because I honestly found it heavy and cakey but later realized it was because I was using too much product.
      TOINK!

Don't you just love it when a foundation comes with a pump?

Packaging is good. You can never go wrong with black and red. It just spells classy. And I love that you can easily see the shade of the foundation just by looking at the bottle. But I really, really just have to be careful whenever I am using it as I tend to drop things no matter how hard I try not to! Hahaha.

      200 Sand Beige

The product is thick and creamy but surprisingly, it's applies evenly and blends easily on the skin. It feels light too! No cakey feeling at all.

      yours truly sans makeup
      scary, huh!?
      ^_^

And me, with a layer of this foundation:

See how it covered most of the blemishes and made my skin look a lot better?  Take note, I didn't use any concealer and yet it was able to cover those nasty pimples. If you have normal or dry skin, you can skip a setting powder but for oily girls like me, I would suggest a light dusting of powder.

I've been using this on most days and I didn't breakout from it.  I love that I don't need to blot as often  as I used to and whenever I am using this, I don't reapply my powder at all.  Staying power is superb.  By the way, I do skip using a primer whenever I use this but still, it doesn't slide off my face and it stays on until I remove it.  I haven't tried wearing this for 24hrs so I can't vouch for its 24hr-claim.  But I did wear it for almost 16hrs one time and it did stay put.  Not as perfect as when freshly applied but it still looked good.  I'd say the foundation looked fresh for a good 8-10hrs. And oily ako ha, so that is already amazeballs! It's not transfer-proof though but doesn't transfer as much. It's matte but since I have (really) oily skin, it will look demi-matte after which I really like. My skin looks healthy, glowing and (almost) perfect.  Hehehe, ang OA ko.

Oh by the way, it has Hyaluronic fresh complex. So that explains how it makes the skin looking more refreshed, hydrated and flawless.

I love, love, love this foundation. I've recommended this to a few friends and they love it too!  The shade 200 is a bit light on me so what I do is to use a slightly darker shade of powder to set it.  I'm gonna go back and check out the other shades and hopefully I can find a shade that will perfectly match my skin.

I forgot how much I got this for  but I'm sure it's less than 100AED. I think it's around 80. I'll check and update this post with the price soon.

Now, going back to this coming weekend.
How do you plan on spending yours?

I use the Beauty Blender when I'm using my thicker foundations or creams and I use the Master Blender when I'm using my bb creams, tinted moisturizers and cheek tints.  I just wish that the pointed tip is as pointed as that of the Beauty Blender so it will be easier to apply makeup on the sides of the nose and on the under eye area.

Priced at AED 40, I am not complaining. Hopefully, they come up with a black one because stains on this cute little thing are such an eye sore.

So what do you think, will you give this a try?

Roberto Cavalli Paradiso Perfume Launch in Dubai

I can hardly remember the last time I was able to attend an event in Dubai.  Aside from I don't get invites that often, it also happens that if I do, it's always on a weekday and during office hours. Bummer, right!?  So when I got an invite to attend a perfume launch that will be held on a Thursday and after office hours, I knew I just had to be there.  Besides, I need to get my mind off a lot of things.  I need some fresh air, I need to meet new friends...I am in a bad need of a social life!

The event was for the launch of Roberto Cavalli Paradiso perfume.  It was held in a posh, private villa at Hotel Sofitel in Dubai. The place was transformed into a natural paradise to reflect the very characteristic of Paradiso itself: colorful, sophisticated, joyful, a celebration of the Mediterranean dolce vita and all of its pleasures.

It was a chilly, Thursday night but with a backdrop as beautiful as the above, it felt like Summer's already here.

Guests were given a chance to have their photo taken with these two exotic birds. I got scared at first because one of them hopped his way too near to my face that I thought he's going to poke me in the eyes. Apparently, he was just drawn to my colorful falsies that our friends from Havas gave and personally applied to most of the lady guests.

It was an awesome night of music, good food and a whole lot of booze.

Seriously, there was a whole lot!

My fix of alcohol that night.
      ^_^

There was even an entertaining and jaw-dropping showcase of magic:

      There's a lot of dancing..

I got to meet new friends too!

And finally met Paul of The Style Choreo in the flesh!

The party was also graced by the face of the perfume herself, the gorgeous Edita Vilkeviciute. She was represented as a modern Eve in the garden of Eden during the campaign shot.

I've wanted to have a photo with her, but I was too shy. Oh well, that's me!  During these times, I miss my blogger friends back in PH. They always know how to boost my confidence.  For sure, they wouldn't let me pass off this chance.

Amidst the amazing party was the star of the night, the Roberto Cavalli perfume called Paradiso.

Paradiso elevates pleasure while radiating delight and happiness. The titillating prelude of sparkling citrus blends generously with bergamot and sweet mandarin orange, stirring and captivating the senses. Adding a note of voluptuous sensuality, wild jasmine trails the fresh opening. A delicate, rich chord of cypress, pink laurel and parasol pine closes the beautiful fragrance, creating a long-lasting woody trail and revealing a mesmerizing effect of the Jasmine.

As per Roberto Cavalli himself,  "Paradiso is about a moment of happiness. I wanted to give a feeling of that instant when you feel totally at ease."

Available officially on counters starting March 2015. Prices are AED465 for 100ml and AED375 for 50ml.

One sniff and I fell inlove. Even the husband says it smells good. I'd post a separate review on this baby soon, but for now, I'll say this scent is SEXY.

Thanks to our friends in Havas for inviting me to such an awesome event.  They really know how to make their guests enjoy as I heard the party lasted until early morning. I wish I could've stayed longer, but the lola in me longed for the bed before midnight, hahaha! I'll brush up on my partying mood for the next event, I promise!

Before I end this post, let me just show you a closer view of my awesome falsies that night:

      and what I wore:

Honestly, I felt different that night.  Everybody was at their absolute best, while me? Ahhhm, I don't know, I felt too balot.  Hahaha. But what can I do? I was cold.  But seriously, I am in a bad need of some fashion advice. Like, badly.

By the way, belated Happy Hearts Day my loves! If you haven't gotten the special woman or women in your life a gift, check out this new scent from Roberto Cavalli. Trust me, they will love it!

Product Review: IZIL Natural Argan Beauty Green Tea Body Lotion

A few weeks ago, I was able to get hold of a sample of one of the IZIL products that were launched in the UAE sometime last year.  It was this Green Tea Body Lotion and though I recently became a fan of green tea products, I didn't use it right after getting it. Why? Simply because I prefer whitening lotions.  Yes, I'm into anything whitening. But please, spare me the criticisms and remember, to each his own.  Kaya wag kayong judgmental. Hahaha!

One night when I came home from home very tired and stressed, I thought of getting a massage.  But where to get one, I really don't have an idea and besides, it can be expensive (kuripot mode is on).  So after resting for a bit, I just decided to take a quick warm shower.  Then I found out that I ran out of body oil (which I prefer using at night) so I rummage through my stuff and saw this.  I took a sniff and wow, I felt like I was teleported to a spa.  I immediately used it and got hooked since then.

IZIL Natural Argan Beauty Green Tea Body Lotion
      (AED 115)
A freshly scented, lightweight and readily absorbed lotion that helps stimulate cell renewal for smooth and supple skin. It has Shea Butter, Almond and Moroccan Argan Oil, antioxidants, vitamins and Green Tea extract for intense hydration and protection against free radicals and toxins.

It has a stopper which prevents spillage of the product. This is really good most especially if you'd be bringing this when you travel. I usually lose the cap of almost anything so this stopper definitely gets my two-thumbs up. I just wish I won't lose it too!

It comes in a plastic container with a spray-cap. I honestly prefer that it comes with a pump instead because it just takes time to get enough product out. Yes, the pump works but I really think cream products should either be in a pump bottle or a tub.

The product itself is really lightweight and spreads evenly on the skin.  And the scent? Oh god, it's so good I am addicted to it. It smells so fresh, it's not overpowering and it just helps me relax.  It reminds me of massage oils used in a spa. It feels good and it smells good. I take my time applying it on my skin. I don't just slather it on, I massage it on and it really helps me take an entire day of stress off of my body.

The scent stays on too. I wake up still feeling and smelling good.  It keeps my skin moisturised even with my A/C on full blast overnight.  I wake up with my skin that is smooth and looking as if I've slept long hours. I also use it sometimes during the day and it makes my skin look glowing and healthy.  I wish it comes with an SPF so I won't have to use a separate lotion for sun protection.

Overall, I am really liking this product.  Whenever I use it,  I feel like my skin just came from a good massage in a spa.  Who needs a whitening lotion if you have a body lotion as good as this?  Besides, green tea helps in detoxifying the skin so with continuous usage, skin will look clearer, fresher, younger and more beautiful.  It's a lot better than just having whiter skin, di ba?

This is quite expensive at AED115.  But just try to think of how much goodness you'd be getting in a bottle and eventually, you'd realize you are indeed getting your money's worth.  But still, I wish it's cheaper.
